Knowledge-Capture and Documentation

  • Developed and maintained all of the General Quality Specifications for the Longaberger Tabletop purchasing team. These documents are used by both external suppliers and internal departments to perform quality inspections on all Tabletop products; customer returns rate for the category cut in half.
  • Documented over 20 Standard Operating Procedures in the Lenox China Cup Department:12 team members performing 8 different job functions. By training the Cup Team to these best practices, the department’s output doubled and the team’s yields improved by 39%.
  • Routinely create charts, tables, and other graphic aids to organize raw data into dynamic information.
  • Record of successful communication through a broad range of standardized-format documents, including capital expenditure requests, FRD’s, job scripts, assembly instructions, etc.

Effective Communication

  • Developed, wrote, and delivered several product education and training presentations for the annual Longaberger sales convention, known as “The Bee”, which is attended by over 10,000 Associates.
  • Broad business experience developing content for sales literature, websites, call center scripts, speeches, manuals, brochures, and company announcements.
  • As a community volunteer / Boy Scout leader, have further experience crafting press releases, newsletters, awards applications, fundraising copy, ceremonies, and seminars.
  • Regularly support the Longaberger CS team with written responses to customer product questions and inquires. Quoting from performance evaluations, “Doug has demonstrated an excellent ability to deal directly with other business areas, Associates and customers on sensitive issues such as quality in a manner that puts the category and the company in a positive light.”
  • Edited the Educational Trail Guide for The Flint Ridge State Memorial; the guide’s 33 articles enrich visitors’ understanding of the importance of the Ridge with accounts of the people and plants that have left their marks along the park’s trails.
  • Regularly post to personal blog “Serendipity Journal”; building an on-line community focused on mutual support and inspiration.
